Netflix

On my last blog, I wrote this about how good Netflix is. I have to say, in my mind it’s getting better every week – and after having a Lovefilm subscription and cancelling it again, it’s easily the best instantly streaming TV/movie watching site IMHO So what have they added since my last blog about it? Well, tons of stuff, clearly.

TV

There are more seasons of Breaking Bad and Dexter since March – yes, it’s still not up to date, but considering British TV haven’t shown series 3 of Breaking Bad yet, I think Netflix are doing pretty well

I’ve also got very attached to Saturday Night Live – there’s the whole of season 36, so Kristen Wiig is still there, as well as LOADS of best ofs and compilations.

I’d been wanting to watch Portlandia and The Sarah Silverman Programme and they’re both on here – I don’t really like either that much, but at least I now have an opinion on them. Similarly, I made it through only 5 minutes of 15 Storeys High which I nearly bought the other week.

They’ve also added just about every BBC and Channel 4 comedy ever made – I highly recommend the following if you haven’t already seen them – Life on Mars, Little Britain, Bob & Margaret, The Inbetweeners, The League of Gentlemen, Gavin & Stacey, The Young Ones, Spaced, Fawlty Towers, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, The Royle Family

I’m looking forward to seeing both the original and the remake of The Killing and Ian is looking forward to the original of Wallander – we missed these on TV and have been waiting for repeats, as we both hate iPlayer and 4OD as I can’t get them to work through the XBox as successfully as Netflix.

Things I’d like to see added – Parks and Recreations, Reaper, more Dexter & Breaking Bad

FILMS

You’ll be pleased to know that while there aren’t that many brand new films, they are at least now showing films which haven’t been on Sky yet – I think this is brilliant for something which costs £6 a month. Even if they only add two films before Sky a month, it’s cheaper than us renting two films. We watch A LOT of films – Ian watches one every afternoon as he rests every day between 3 and 6, and has seen an unbelievable amount of rubbish films.

The newest films at the minute are Troll Hunter and Drive – both were released in 2011 and haven’t been on Sky yet. They’re both also decent films – we rented them both recently, but now we’re being more choosy about what we rent, as we’re hoping Netflix will continue releasing films of this calibre.

We also enjoyed Tucker and Dale Vs Evil last night after my brother recommended it. I don’t know if this has been on Sky yet, we certainly haven’t seen it on there, but it’s a really funny, touching horror film if such a thing exists.

I watched Whip-its the other morning, expecting to turn it off after ten minutes in disgust – I ended up watching it over breakfast, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Films I plan to watch – Postcards From The Edge,

Films I’ve already seen, but have watched again (or might do in the future) and would recommend if you haven’t already seen them – Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Ghost World, Reality Bites, The Birdcage, Nacho Libre, Sin City, American Movie, Shutter Island, Donnie Brasco There Will Be Blood, Equilibrium, So I Married an Axe Murderer, American Weresolf in London, The Faculty, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Blair Witch Project, Capote

Films I started watching, and didn’t finish – Superstar, Dazed and Confused, Dickie Roberts Child Star

Films I will never start watching, no matter how many times it recommends them – Videodrome, Mimic, Das Boot

STAND-UP

This seems a recent addition – before I only remember the Tim Vine stand-up which we watched, but now there are loads more added. I’ve started watching a few but haven’t found any I really like. However, if you like Russell Brand, Jim Jeffries, Demetri Martin, Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan or anything off The Comedy Store, then you’ll probably like what they’re offering.

THINGS THEY SHOULD ADD

1. I want a wish list feature – where we can request things to be added if possible.

2. I’d also like a favourites section – so I can keep track of what I’ve really enjoyed. You can rate things, but I can’t find any way to see what I’ve enjoyed the most

3. Finally, I want a bookmark section – so I can also keep track of what I want to watch in the future
